Event Title: Speaker Evening: Carolyn Ledowsky - Could ADHD Be Genetic?
Organisation: Northern Beaches ADHD Support Group
Email: nbadhdsupportgroup@hotmail.com
Posted On: 24/04/2016

Many studies have focused on the risks of the MTHFR gene and the incidence of neuropsychiatric diseases such as schizophrenia, depression, bipolar, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s, vascular dementia, autism and working memory.

Recently studies have looked at the association of the MTHFR gene and ADHD and some have found an association with the gene and ADHD symptoms.

The MTHFR gene controls the level of active folate in the body. This active folate known as 5-Methyltetrahydrofolate is a major source of methyl groups in the brain. The lack of methylation in dopamine DR2 receptors has been linked with ADHD. Folates are of fundamental importance in brain growth, development, repair, mood and cognition. If your child has a mutation in the MTHFR gene, then this could be a factor that contributes to low methyl folate, low methylation of DR2 receptors and more severe ADHD symptoms.

The MTHFR gene, together with environmental risk factors may be an important factor in the development and improvement of ADHD symptom severity.

Join, Carolyn Ledowsky founder of MTHFR Support Australia to hear the latest research and discuss the importance of addressing the MTHFR gene and reduced methylation in your child.

Carolyn Ledowsky is the founder of MTHFR Support Australia. She is a naturopath, herbalist and nutritionist who has a Bachelor of Herbal Medicine, Bachelor of Naturopathy, Advanced Diploma of Naturopathy and Diploma of Nutrition. She has also studied courses in genetics at Duke University (Genetics and Evolution) and The University of Maryland (Genes and the Human condition – from behaviour to biotechnology) .

Carolyn now sees chronically ill patients who have searched, sometimes for decades, to find the reason behind their ill health. Most of her patients have MTHFR mutations and/or associated methylation disturbances. These disturbances then go on to affect thyroid, adrenals, hormones, detoxification and energy pathways and often neurotransmitters. Her expertise is in understanding these highly complex biochemical pathways.

Carolyn is a regular speaker at MTHFR events and provides both patient and practitioner training through her many webinars/presentations and on-line learning environments. She has a close working relationship with Sterling Hill (MTHFR Support.com) and Cynthia Smith (Life-zone Wellness) and regularly presents webinars for practitioners with them in understanding MTHFR and methylation issues. Carolyn has interviewed Ben Lynch (MTHFR.net) on various MTHFR related topics particularly in relation to MTHFR and pregnancy.
