You can access the program at www.parentworks.org.au
ParentWorks has been developed for parents and caregivers of children aged 2-16 years.
You may find the program helpful for:
- Managing challenging child behaviours such as tantrums, aggression, noncompliance, inattentive or hyperactive behaviour, and sibling conflict;
- Increasing their confidence in parenting;
- Working as a team with their partner.
ParentWorks has been developed by a team of researchers and psychologists led by Prof Mark Dadds at the University of Sydney. It is an interactive, entirely self-directed program that includes 5 to 8 online video modules that parents complete on their own, in their own time. Each module takes about 20-30 minutes to complete (one module per week) and parents are encouraged to put the strategies they learn each week into practice. The program can be completed in as little as 4 weeks.
Participation in ParentWorks is part of a research study at the University of Sydney. Parents complete a series of questions at various stages throughout the program including at commencement, on completion and again three months after completion. The questions will allow for evaluation of the program and will also enable parents to track their progress during the program by giving them feedback (such as on their child’s behaviour) each time they complete the questions. Participant data is anonymous.
Parents do not have to be concerned about their child’s behaviour to take part, as the program may be helpful to all parents in providing tips and strategies about parenting, increasing parenting confidence and enhancing consistency and teamwork between parents. The program encourages caregivers who are in a relationship to participate in the program together to increase consistent parenting practices. However, caregivers can also complete the program on their own.
