Clarity in Communication- for parents of children with disabilities Term 1

This is a parent led group for anyone who has a child who uses an alternative or augmentative system (AAC), or is thinking a communication system might be useful in the future.

AAC means using something other than words – or as well as words to communicate.

Options include:
- Key word signing
- Using visuals or a ‘low tech’ system such as the Podd system
- High tech systems (eg on an iPad). Examples are Proloquo2Go and Go-Talk.

During this session families will share ideas about communication and discuss the wide range of options for augmentative and alternative communication.

The group can also discuss how AAC can help children across different aspects of their learning, including literacy skills and positive behaviour.

The Clarity in Communication Group will be led by a parent. Guest speakers will be invited for each session. The group will meet four times this year and you can come to one or all of the sessions.

Child-minding is not available. Please do not bring your child/children.
