Interest Group: Clarity in Communication- for children with disability or development delay

The starting date for this event has passed. Some events are ongoing, check the dates and information below to see if you can still attend.
This is a parent led group for anyone who has a child who uses an alternative or augmentative system (AAC), or is thinking a communication system might be useful in the future.
AAC means using something other than words – or as well as words - to communicate. Options include:
- Key word signing
- Using visuals or a ‘low tech’ system such as the Podd system
- High tech systems (eg on an iPad). Examples are Proloquo2Go and Go-Talk.
During this interest group families will share ideas about communication and discuss the wide range of options for augmentative and alternative communication.
The group can also discuss how AAC can help children across different aspects of their learning, including literacy skills and positive behaviour.
The Clarity in Communication Interest Group will be led by a parent, and parents will decide on the topics for the following sessions. Guest speakers can be invited if needed. The group will meet four times this year and you can come to one or all of the sessions.
Child-minding is available by booking only.

This session will be held in the Dance Hall in the Youth Centre. Once you arrive at Jarvie Park, look for the sign "Dance Hall". If you have problem locating it, come and see a staff member at Plumtree and we will help you locating the right venue.
